A few shots of the steam road and agricultural locomotives on view at the 36th Annual Yesteryear Rally which took place at Hampton, Malpas, Cheshire on Saturday 12th September 2009. (I did not attend on the 2nd day.) Some shots are very short to get as many vehicles into the 10 minutes that YouTube allows. The captions are equally short so you will need to pause to read them all or, of course, you can scroll down these notes. For the first 3:45 the locos are static - after that some are seen moving round the field in readiness for the traditional parade in the ring. 1927/9 Burrell Roller - Samson - Works No. 4069 - Reg. No. RL 9960. One of the last Burrells to be delivered and spent her working life in Cornwall. Ordered 1927 and delivered 1929 hence the uncertain age. She is seen here taking part in a demonstration of road making by rolling the hardcore base. 1919 Marshall Portable - Doris - Works No. 71396. Single cylinder 10hp engine delivered new to Craigmile Brothers, Wood Merchants near Aberdeen and use by them until 1937/8. Possibly used as a stationary boiler for sterilising soil after that. 1917 Aveling & Porter Roller - Ophelia - Reg. No. FX 7043. Supplied new to Eddisons. 1914 Ruston Proctor - Oliver. New to the War Department for use in the Great War. Later used as a showmans tractor and then for timber hauling. 1912 Allchin Agricultural Engine - Rebel - Works No. 1546 - Reg. No. AP 9079. Foden Road Locomotive - King George V - Reg. No. E 5684. 1902 Fowler ...

The English tradition of Wassailing dates back to before the year 450 when our Anglo-Saxon ancestors first began to settle en mass on british soil, this is evident because of the various other germanic countries who share very similar Wassailing customs. Wassailing traditions whithin England vary from region to region. In the southwest (Wessex) for example Wassailing involves variuos rituals wherby the remains of the years cider are poured around the trees in an orchard and encouraged to grow with dancing and Wassailing song, ensuring a good crop for the following year. In the middlands (Mercia), Wassailing traditions are slightly different, "Wassailers" will go door to door wishing health and prosperity to the house and the inhabitants therein with a Wassail song; in return ofcourse for an alcoholic beverage (or two) to be poured into the Wassail bowl (the style in which we beleive this song comes from). We hope you enjoy our rendition of this great song from our rich ancient heritage....Wassail !! note... A few pints of ale were enjoyed prior to the singing of this song, hence the less than polished performance! Thanks for watching!
