These scenes are replaying the drama in Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.. For more info on Hiroshima go to: en.wikipedia.org There is a picture halfway showing the city from above before and after, where there is just nothing left on the map.. Shocking. When i first heard this song a few years ago on the Buddha Bar CD series it made me think on the American attack on Japan in 1945. I wanted to make a video about it, but i did not had any material. When i found this DVD i realised it was what i was looking for. The DVD is a docum. video from BBC called Hiroshima The music; Its from La Roca but this is a mix from DJ Claude Challe for the second album of the Buddha Bar series. Please support the artist and check out his website: www.nachosotomayor.com Please check out their albums, they make great music. Rates and comments are very much appreciated! Greetings Sjoerd

title number from Pete La Rocas classic Blue Note album "Basra". Recorded on May 19, 1965 by Rudy Van Gelder at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. Produced by Alfred Lion. Remastered in 2004 by Rudy Van Gelder. JOE HENDERSON, tenor sax STEVE KUHN, piano STEVE SWALLOW, bass PETE LA ROCA, drums Basra [Pete La Roca] The philosophy of Indian music has affected La Rocas jazz concepts. He is interested in "how many ways can you use monotony? - or how much monotony can be used without hurting the music, without it getting to be a bore?" There is a kinship here with whirling an object around so fast that it appears to be standing still. He feels that this kind of music can be "listened to in the foreground or in the background with your third ear." Its relation to Indian music lies in their idea of music reduced to a hum (the Indian "aum" wherein you sing that word, controlling your breath as long as you can, thereby producing gradations in pitch and tone as didacted by your physiology). "Its something to meditate on," says Pete. "You tune in to what part of it you like. Its like listening to the world - its always going on." His title number, Basra, which utilizes one chord throughout, is the most pertinent example in this album. Swallows introduction takes us in a brightly-sailed boat from the waters of the Persian Gulf, up the Shatt al Arab River into the Iraqi port. Henderson then gives us a tour that is never boring as he explores the street of the ...

Moross] "The very expressive Lazy Afternoon by Jerome Moross is the ballad of the date, one of La Rocas favorites by way of explaining its inclusion. It too, does not use a wide harmonic area but its arresting beauty is not in need of searching far. Joe emulates an alto flute in his entrance and gives a sensitive interpretation, in keeping with the songs mood, aided strongly by Kuhn, who weaves in and out of the pieces fabric and takes a reflective solo." - Ira Gitler, original liner notes

Jose Serrano: "La Dolorosa", act 1. The cold rock of Calvary - a Rafaels description of picture of Suffering Mother of the Redeemer: The cold rock of Calvary is hidden behind a black cloud. Up a solitary path the Virgin Mother walks on, And her dear face like a lily-flower has lost its colour. And in her wounded breast are nailed The thorns of sorrow. Her shaking body bends under the weight of her grief, but she continues. Walks on, as her ice-cold lips kiss the ground, where a flower blossoms at every drop of blood that falls from Jesus the Redeemer, dark pilgrims emblems of pain turned to light. She walks on, walks on quickly because The Son is waiting for her, dying on the cross. Woman and mother! Of all the world most sacred. the walking Virgin sees the silhouette of the gibbet where her son is in agony, Her grief she pours out with a cry that she cant hold in. It is a heart-rending cry torn from the body of the woman. Divine star, you follow the trace of suffering humanity on your sad walk, walk of tears, the Suffering Mother of the Redeemer.
