La alcazaba Edificación de defensa ubicada dentro de la ciudad de Almería, exactamente en el barrio Pescadería. Una alcazaba es una ciudadela construida en varios niveles que suele ocupar toda una elevación de terreno. Tiene muros con torres de defensa, calles, casas y mezquita. En el año 955 Abderramán III concede a Almería la categoría de medina. Es en ese momento cuando se comienza a construir la alcazaba. Se construye también la mezquita mayor y las murallas que rodean la ciudad. La alcazaba fue una fortaleza militar y al mismo tiempo sede del gobierno. Desde este lugar se domina la ciudad y el mar. Se perfeccionó todo el conjunto y se engrandeció con Almanzor y más tarde alcanzó su máximo esplendor con Al-Jairán, primer rey independiente taifa (1012-1028).

It was not discovered until 1951 in spite of its size with a radius of 31 meters and height of 19 meters. Studies have shown that it hasnt been used since the 3rd century and that the Moors used elements from the Theatre in the construction of La Alcazaba. It is in the process of a carfeul restoration that will preserve the cities roman heritage for generations to come. LA ALCAZABA is a military fortress build by the Moors in the 11th century on the remains of a Romans fortress. The fortress lies on a hill top with good view over the town and the sea and originally consisted of 3 protecting walls (whereas 2 are still remaining), more than 100 towers and a superior part with a residential area including 3 palaces. The citys most distinctive building, the 11th century Alcazaba sits in majestic splendour on the hillside overlooking the African coast.
