Entry from: Alcala De Henares, Spain Entry Title: "Fiesta Nacional" Entry: "Today is October 12th, and it a national holiday in Spain. We heard there was a big parade in Madrid, and the king and queen of Spain make an appearance. I thought this was sort of a once in a lifetime experience, but we decided against going because we heard there would be huge crowds. We took the metro to the Madrid Chamartín train staion, hoping to be able to catch a train to Salamanca. Again, the metro was packed, but this time full of people with lawn chairs and blankets likely heading to watch the spectacle. One stop on the line we were on was closed due to the festivities, and it was kind of exciting to think we could be traveling right under the king and queen of Spain at that moment! At the next stop, the people with lawn chairs de-boarded and we now the train was roomy. Once we arrived at Chamartín, we went to the ticket office. There was a train to Salamanca available, but all of the trains returning to Madrid were full. We decided to buy tickets to and from Salamanca on Wednesday, instead. Next, we decided to go see the Royal Palace and the surrounding area. We took the metro, got off at the stop near the palace, and slowly made our way over to the palace, enjoying the architecture and culture of the neighborhood ...
