Driving on the craggy, narrow road from Banos to Puyo in Ecuador---in the 1990s. The road was quite a challenge but the views were great. My friend from France was driving, and he did a great job! The river we were hugging feeds into the Amazon.

Entry from: Banos and Cuenca, Ecuador Entry Title: "Banos and Cuenca" Entry: "Hola from Cuenca! Well the last week has been a bit crazy, with some highs and lows for the people in the group. But nothing we havent been able to get over. We spent five nights in Banos, a spa town south of Quito, which is famous for its active volcano, and its thermal baths. Banos is a very cool little town, very chilled and relaxed but at the same time offering lots to do. The travel to Banos was long, because we left the jungle very early in the morning and didnt arrive in Banos until 7pm, but a good meal and a impromtu concert by a local band (full on Andean music...pan pipes and everthing!) and we were all in good spirits. The hotel was so lovely...lots of hot water! We had a very relaxed first day and did some shopping and walking around town. That night however we had a very large one...lots to drink, we ate at a great mexican place and then full of margaritas we hit the town. Maria took us to this bar called the Leprechaun Bar, and we arrived and found ourselves behind the bar drinking Bob Marley shooters for free...I later figured out why. The bar was pretty quiet when we arrived, and then suddenly every guy town was there! Byron even got thanked by the manager for brining along so many girls! Anyway, it was a ...

Banos is famous for the thermal baths that are fed with volcanic hot water. This is a nice travel destination in Ecuador, South America to visit for a week or two. Some people travel here and never leave. The climate is pretty good with warm to hot days and cool nights. The active volcano Tungurahua is on the other side of the mountain here (about 8km away.) The volcano does pose a danger, but so far Banos has not been drastically affected by the eruptions. There are plenty of hotels, hostels and restaurants to choose from. The food market offers a cheap place to grab a meal and some delicious fresh fruit shakes. You can do whitewater rafting, biking, hiking, bungee jumping and other activities in and around Banos, Ecuador. Put Banos on your must visit destinations in Ecuador.
